Fractional CFO in San Diego

CFOs who have sat in the seat, a drive away when it counts

Everest’s Managing Directors in San Diego County place fractional and interim CFOs with companies across the region. They have run finance and operations at global consumer brands, private equity-backed companies and large healthcare systems, so they know what an owner, a sponsor or a board expects from the numbers.

Our San Diego team includes Peter Moore, who has held senior finance and operations roles at brands including Gap Inc., Birkenstock and PVH, and David Zvonec, who has led planning and decision support at private equity-backed companies and academic medical centers. RJ Swartwood has led HR and talent work in corporate roles and for private equity firms. We work fractional, a few days a week; interim, when the seat is open and the work can’t wait; or project-based, when there’s a defined job to finish.

Why a local CFO matters

Most finance work can happen anywhere. The moments that decide a quarter usually don’t. A board meeting, a lender review, an auditor walkthrough or a buyer’s site visit goes better with your CFO in the room.

San Diego business spreads from downtown and UTC to Sorrento Valley and Carlsbad, with a deep base of consumer brands, technology companies and healthcare. With Managing Directors who live in the county, being in the room doesn’t mean a drive down the 5 from Los Angeles.

We’re at TechCon San Diego, BIO and ACG San Diego events through the year, and part of the ProVisors and Private Directors Association communities in San Diego.

Proof

A portfolio company in an old-line fulfillment business was in the middle of a hard reset. Cash was short, lenders were frustrated, and the business was mid-transformation. We stepped in to run the finance function, put in a new ERP system, and built out the sponsor’s operating thesis along with the metrics to track it. We also rebuilt pricing and reworked how the sales team took the business to market, aimed at recurring revenue and stronger cash generation.

Across the team, Everest has closed more than 50 M&A transactions, buy side and sell side, with combined transaction value of more than $55 billion, and has raised more than $4 billion across more than 75 capital raises.

Questions San Diego companies ask

Where is Everest located?

Everest is based in Beverly Hills, California. Several of our Managing Directors live and work in San Diego County, and the firm serves companies across North America.

Do you work on site?

Yes, when the work calls for it. Our San Diego Managing Directors can be at your office for board meetings, audits, lender reviews and buyer visits. Day-to-day finance work is often remote.

What is the difference between a fractional and an interim CFO?

A fractional CFO works part time on an ongoing basis, often a few days a week. An interim CFO fills an open seat full time until a permanent hire is in place. See What Is Fractional Executive Leadership.

What does a fractional CFO cost in San Diego?

It depends on the scope and how many days a month the work needs. We scope it with you in the first conversation, and the cost is a fraction of a full-time CFO’s salary and benefits.
